Juneau, AK, March 2, 2005 –The United Way of
Southeast Alaska closed its 2004 Campaign with welcome news.
The nonprofit organization’s private campaign yielded $205,850 in
gifts, pledges, and in-kind contributions, for an 87% increase over
its private campaign total of $110,220 in 2003. Previously,
the record for private campaign results was $186,913 in 2002.
Compared to the private campaign’s 10-year average of $154,716, the
2004 results were 33% higher than average.
United Way’s private campaign is supported by
businesses and organizations throughout Southeast Alaska that give
their employees opportunities to support health and social service
agencies through payroll deductions. In addition, the private
campaign includes gifts, pledges and in-kind contributions from
corporations and individual donors.
“These results testify to the generosity of our
region’s employers and their employees,” said Sharon Kelly, 2004
Campaign Volunteer Chair. “They understand that payroll
deduction is one of the most effective ways to support our
hard-working nonprofit agencies.”
State and federal government campaigns yielded
results slightly lower in 2004 than in 2003. The Alaska State
SHARE campaign raised $131,908 in Southeast Alaska, which
represented a 2% drop from its 2003 total. The Combined
Federal Campaign (CFC) generated $155,494 in Southeast Alaska, for a
2.1% decline from its 2003 results. Compared to its 10-year
history, the SHARE campaign results were 9.1% higher than average.
The CFC results were .5% lower than the campaign’s 10-year average.
Together, the three 2004 campaigns (private,
SHARE and CFC) generated revenues of $493,252. The combined
campaigns’ total for 2004 is the second-largest in United Way’s
history, compared to $523,271 in 2001, following September 11.
In addition, United Way of Southeast Alaska was awarded the first
installment of a five-year capacity-building grant from the Rasmuson
Foundation, in the amount of $140,000. Including the grant
funds, United Way’s total gifts, pledges and support in 2004 totaled
$633,252.
Approximately 100 volunteers supported the 2004 United Way
Campaign in Southeast, by serving as key workers in their
organizations. “United Way of Southeast Alaska thanks the
thousands of generous people who give to United Way, allowing us to
partner with 32 health and human service agencies to achieve
positive impact in the region’s communities,” said Jodi Kilcup,
Executive Director. |
