Credit Union and Banking Leaders Invest in United Way Campaign 2004

Juneau, AK, July 23, 2004 -- Sharon Kelly, outgoing president and CEO of True North Federal Credit Union, has agreed to chair the 2004 Campaign of United Way of Southeast Alaska (UWSEAK). Kelly, a third-generation Alaskan, has served on a number of community service nonprofit boards, including Catholic Community Service, Hospice and Home Health Care of Juneau, Juneau Hospice Foundation, and the Douglas Fourth of July. Her duties begin immediately, with the campaign scheduled to start September 9, 2004.

As campaign chair, Kelly's chief objective will be to help UWSEAK increase financial and volunteer resources to support the social service infrastructure in Southeast Alaska. She will steer a Campaign Cabinet composed of leaders representing the region's various business and industry sectors. In addition, she will direct staff and volunteers conducting workplace campaigns. "The United Way of Southeast Alaska is ready to demonstrate two kinds of results. We will run a successful campaign and, more importantly, we will increase the ability of our communities to change and improve lives. That's the real bottom line," Kelly said.

Kathleen Vilandre, who manages the Juneau branch of Wells Fargo Bank, will serve as campaign vice-chair. Recently appointed to the UWSEAK Board of Directors, she will work closely with Kelly to coordinate the activities of the campaign's volunteer leaders and workplace teams. "This promises to be a great partnership between people who might otherwise be business competitors. We will bring that competitive spirit to the United Way 2004 Campaign," Vilandre said. Next year, Vilandre will step into the role of campaign chair.
