Juneau, AK, December 20, 2004 – United Way of
Southeast Alaska has received a $230,000 grant from the Rasmuson
Foundation to fund the first two years of a $400,000, five-year,
capacity-building project. After 18 months, United Way may be
invited to apply for an additional $170,000 to fund the project’s
remaining three years.
Designed to help United Way expand its
community impact, the grant funds will boost existing programs, such
as the United Way Campaign, and advance new initiatives, such as
community-building research throughout Southeast. The grant
also supports increased travel and outreach to Southeast
communities, training for staff and volunteers, enhanced
communications with United Way donors and friends, and the growth of
a Volunteer Center.
“The Rasmuson Foundation grant is a tremendous
vote of confidence at a time when United Way is building a strong
presence in Southeast. We are very grateful for this support,”
said Chuck Collins, president of the United Way Board of Directors.
The purpose of the Rasmuson Foundation is to
invest in well-managed 501(c)(3) organizations that provide a unique
public service, thereby ensuring that basic human needs are met and
that the quality of life for all Alaskans is enhanced. The
Foundation seeks to support not-for-profit organizations that are
focused and effective in the pursuit of their goals, with special
consideration for those organizations that demonstrate strong
leadership, clarity of purpose and cautious use of resources. |
