United Way of Southeast Alaska Hosts New AmeriCorps Program

Juneau, August 10, 2017 –United Way of Southeast Alaska is pleased to be hosting the AmeriCorps program. AmeriCorps has a long history of service in Juneau and the United Way of Southeast Alaska is excited to build upon this strong foundation.  With nine host sites and twelve AmeriCorps membership positions available, United Way of Southeast Alaska aims to decrease or minimize the ACE (Adverse Childhood Experiences) scores of local Juneau youth and adults by focusing on access to care, building community and school partnerships, and by imparting and modeling healthy lifestyle choices.

United Way of Southeast Alaska is currently recruiting members to work with a variety of community organizations including REACH, AEYC, Family Promise, JDHS, Glacier Valley Elementary, Riverbend Elementary, AWARE, SEARHC, and United Way of Southeast Alaska.  Romee McAdams, the new AmeriCorps Program Manager says, “I look forward to building diverse community partnerships and developing a strong AmeriCorps presence in Juneau.  I would like to thank the United Way of Southeast Alaska for supporting and hosting this amazing program that not only benefits the members who participate but also the community at large.”

This project is funded in part through a grant from the Corporation for National and Community Service and administered by Serve Alaska. These funds help Alaska to recruit, train, and deploy 2,500 volunteers on a full and part-time basis to address locally identified needs in education, homeland security, environmental, public safety and other human needs of Alaska residents.
