United Way of Southeast Alaska recently partnered with Galaxy Digital, a web-based communications firm, to develop Get Connected, a volunteer engagement and management platform to be incorporated into the volunteer section of our website. Get Connected allows non-profit organizations in Southeast Alaska to post available volunteer opportunities while also allowing interested individuals to search for advocacy, employment, and volunteer opportunities tailored to their availability and interest.
Similar to social media platforms like Facebook or Google+, regional non-profit organizations create profiles that highlight their mission statements, contact information, needs, and events. Likewise, interested volunteers create individual profiles specifically tailored to their interests, join volunteer groups, become fans of particiapting agencies, and track non-profit agencies' needs and events.
"Think of it as a dating service hosted by United Way of Southeast Alaska between regional non-profit organizations and individuals in communities across Southeast Alaska who would like to get involved in something they believe in or that interests them," says Wayne Stevens, President and CEO of United Way of Southeast Alaska. "If we can tell the story of an agency and get people passionate about what that agency does, then we can get people engaged. There are lots of people out there willing to get involved and give back, but they're not sure how to get started. Get Connected helps both sides of the equation."
United Way of Southeast Alaska's mission is to address individual needs and improve lives by organizing the caring and collaborative power of our communities in Southeast Alaska. For that reason, United Way of Southeast Alaska is providing this volunteer engagement tool to our partner agencies free of charge to foster engagement and volunteerism in communities across Southeast Alaska.
